Accountant – PolyCello – Amherst

With existing growth and continued efforts to penetrate new international markets, we are currently seeking an Accountant to join our team. Reporting to the Accounting Manager, the successful candidate will apply knowledge of accounting theory and procedures to perform general accounting duties.

Specific responsibilities:

Performs daily reconciliation of bank accounts
Reconciles General Ledger and bank accounts on a monthly basis
Analyzes expense accounts for managers as required
Calculates and prepares payment of customer rebates
Maintains fixed asset records; calculates monthly depreciation
Reconciles prepaids and plate amortization to the General Ledger on a monthly basis
Calculates and inputs journal entry for interest expense on a monthly basis
Recodes incorrect invoice or credit note General Ledger entries
Prepares monthly scrap and waste reports
Completes monthly audit summaries of expense accounts
Prepares monthly supplier reconciliations to A/P sub ledger
Reviews supplier statements for outstanding items
Supports cost-reduction and process-efficiency opportunities
Sets up departmental budget templates
Participates in the analysis of the annual expense budget
Participates in preparation for year-end audit
Recommends and develops improvements to accounting processes on an ongoing basis

Qualifications/Critical Skills:

University degree with a concentration in accounting, or a Community College accounting diploma
Currently enrolled or planning to enroll in a professional accounting program (CGA, CMA, CA)
Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word and Excel software programs
Good communication skills, both verbal and written
Good time-management and organizational skills
Demonstrated strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy
Knowledgeable in accounting theory and procedures
Preferred: Accounting experience in a manufacturing environment
