The Incorporated Hamlet of Tulita is seeking a Director of Finance with a strong background in legislative requirements, support Municipal operations, business accounting, economic development planning and strategies, financial management, and a demonstrated effectiveness as a communicator and hamlet promoter to run our Finance Department Office. We are a fly-in community, located east of Norman Wells in the NWT.

Reporting to the Senior Administrative Officer the Director of Finance is responsible for:

Assist with preparation of the budget
Implement financial policies and procedures
Establish and maintain cash controls
Monitor cash reserves and investment assets
Review and approve purchase order system requisitions
Assign duties, recruit and select finance staff, provide training opportunities
Process supplier invoices and other invoices as required
Ensure the financial data is entered into the system
Issue cheques for all accounts due
Ensure transactions are properly recorded and entered into the computerized accounting system
Prepare income statements and quarterly reports and report on variances
Prepare balance sheets and prepare monthly financial statements
Assist with the annual audit
Maintain the computerized accounting system
Maintain financial files and records for the Hamlet of Tulita and more as requested from Mayor and Council

Desired qualifications include at minimum a diploma in the Accounting or Business Administration plus 3 to 5 years successful relevant experience. (Lesser qualification may be considered). Must be familiar with Sage 300 and we are in the process of changing to Sage 50.

Salary is commensurate with education and experience. Hamlet benefits and rules would apply. The successful candidate will be required to provide a detailed Criminal Check and Background Check.
