Finance Manager – Boys and Girls Club Saint John

The Saint John Boys & Girls Club has a proud 100 year history of serving the children and youth in the Saint John area.  Our Club programs and services promote and enhance child development by instilling a sense of competence, usefulness, belonging and influence.  We are a safe place to learn and grow – all while having fun. We currently have an exciting opportunity for an experienced bookkeeper who will be an integral part of our management team.  As the Finance Manager you will contribute to the overall success of the Club by effectively managing all financial tasks for the organization.

A key component of this position is the daily accounting duties including: accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, and maintenance of all general ledger accounts.  In order to do this, you will need a strong working knowledge of Sage 50 and Excel.

Other duties include:

Develop and maintain timely and accurate financial statements and reports;
Ensure that all statutory requirements of the organization are met including Charitable Status, withholding payments (CPP, EI), Income Tax.
Prepare all supporting information for the annual audit and liaise with the Board’s Finance Committee and the external auditors;
Oversee all payroll functions to ensure that employees are paid in a timely and accurate manner;
Process all pre-authorized parent payments;
Issue invoices to vendors including social development and other agencies;
Provide accurate and timely reporting on the financial activity of individual projects;
Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure that personnel and financial information is secure and stored in compliance with current legislation.

Finally, as the Finance Manager, you will be the primary contact with the auditor and will prepare the working papers and financial statements for the annual audit.

The requirements needed to be successful in this role are:

Diploma (or education/experience equivalency) in accounting;
Proficient in Sage 50 (formally Simply Accounting) and Excel;
Minimum 3 years’ experience in the accounting/bookkeeping field;
Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Relationship building skills and the ability to work effectively with staff, board members, donors and community stakeholders;
Demonstrated ability to be proactive and take initiative;
Must be a self-starter and able to work independently and as part of a team.
