Payroll and Benefits Administrator – BC Transit – Victoria, BC

BC Transit is a provincial crown corporation and coordinates the delivery of safe, reliable, cost-efficient and market-focused transit services in British Columbia outside of the Greater Vancouver region. Working in partnership with local governments and private companies, BC Transit provides direct services in fleet acquisition and management, contract administration, transit planning, marketing and financial services.

This position is based in Victoria which is located on the southern tip of Vancouver Island. Victoria (regional population 330,000) is the capital of British Columbia and a community of choice for many, due to our temperate climate, natural beauty and diverse economic opportunities. Victoria is an international resort destination with a transportation network that includes airport, helicopter and seaplane services, buses, ferry and cruise ships.

Duties:

Ensures the accurate and timely processing of the full payroll cycle and responsible for a variety of benefits administration duties while maintaining confidentiality at all times.
Verifies all entries relating to pay transactions, payroll earnings deductions and related remittances.
Sets up and maintains procedures for the processing of various wage assignment court orders.
Responds to inquiries from internal and external clients regarding a variety of payroll and benefits related matters.
Carries out benefits administration duties related to time off entitlements, sick leave records, pension plan and enrolling employees and maintaining employee benefits information.
Assists manager with year-end activities.

Qualifications:

Grade 12 graduation, including accounting courses, and completion of the Payroll Compliance Practitioner requirements of the Canadian Payroll Association or equivalent.
At least one and half 1.5 years of related payroll and accounting experience combined with working with a computerized payroll system in a multi unionized environment; exposure to the administration of union contracts, and exempt benefits; working knowledge of legislation as it relates to Payroll processing such as CR, Employment Insurance and Canadian Pension Plan.
A combination of education, training and experience may be considered.

Testing and assessments may be included as part of the recruitment process.
This position is a bargaining unit position, COPE Local 378.
