Building and Bylaw Clerk – Fraser Valley Regional District

The Fraser Valley Regional District is inviting applications from qualified candidates to fill the Time-Duration position of Building and Bylaw Clerk in the Electoral Areas Services Division. The term of this position is from mid-December 2016 to approximately March 31, 2017 or until otherwise concluded. Under the direction of the Director of Planning and Development, the Building and Bylaw Clerk will provide administrative and technical support for building, bylaw enforcement, and other planning staff including processing and tracking building permit applications, bylaw contravention complaints; scheduling inspections, meetings and appointments for building and bylaw enforcement staff; compiling, entering and maintaining building permit and bylaw enforcement data; and coordinating the flow of documentation between planning, building, bylaw enforcement and administration staff.

Required knowledge, skills and abilities:
Post secondary education, preferably a degree or diploma, related to planning, building or engineering technology along with some relevant work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
Working knowledge or ability to quickly acquire knowledge of standard planning, building and engineering nomenclature and processes;
Ability to interpret complex technical information, policies and procedures and explain them to the public;
Excellent computer skills, with a high level of proficiency with Microsoft Office;
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, and must have good customer service skills with the ability to remain courteous, tactful and diplomatic in dealing with the public;
Must be in possession of a valid Driver’s Licence.

The wage rate for this bargaining unit position is $22.84 (2016 rates) per hour plus 10.6% in lieu of benefits. Upon successful completion of the required 840 hour probationary period the wage rate will increase to $26.87 per hour (2016 rates) plus 10.6% in lieu of benefits.
