Utility Operations Assistant – Sunshine Coast Regional District

The Sunshine Coast Regional District (SCRD) is the regional government serving the approximate 30,000 residents of the Sunshine Coast. Bordered by rugged mountains on one side and the Georgia Strait on the other, the Sunshine Coast is situated on a peninsula between Howe Sound and Jervis Inlet in the traditional territory of the Sechelt and Squamish First Nations. The Sunshine Coast Regional District is currently inviting applications for the position of full-time Utility Operations Assistant. Reporting to the Utility Operations Superintendent, performs maintenance management/inventory duties, provides clerical and reception support to the Mason Road & South Pender Harbour Offices and responds to general and service enquiries from a variety of sources.

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Completion of Grade twelve (12) or equivalent.
Minimum of one (1) year related office experience, including dealing with the public; preferably in local government.
Experience working with computerized business systems such as maintenance management/inventory control systems or other relevant system.

OTHER SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE
Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, particularly Word, Excel and Outlook; minimum 40wpm typing speed.
Knowledge of water industry parts and materials.
Ability to take informal minutes such as at safety and staff meetings.
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
Ability to interact effectively with customers by demonstrating a strong customer focus and an ability to defuse confrontational situations.
Ability to multi-task and focus in a busy operational environment.
Ability to organize workload and set priorities and work with a minimum of supervision.
Ability to work accurately and handle details that frequently change; ability to work effectively as a team member.

This is a bargaining unit position with a wage rate of $27.61 per hour and includes a full benefit package upon the successful completion of a four month probationary period with the SCRD.
