THE POSITION

We are very excited to have opened a new office in beautiful downtown Victoria in the Fall 2014, and are looking for a Mechanical Designer to join our team.  The individual must be a team player with the ability to receive and execute instructions from the Team Leader with minimal supervision.  Proficient operating knowledge of AutoCAD is required as well as specific building services design and drafting experience in HVAC, plumbing and fire protection systems.  Confident and courteous communication skills, initiative, ability to work effectively with junior staff, pride in delivery of a polished work product, and inclination to learn are to be demonstrated.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Oversee management of design documents in AutoCAD
Provide technical assistance to the Senior Designers/Project Managers/Team Leaders as follows:
Set up and maintain organised design files and notes
Carry out heating and cooling load calculations with oversight by senior staff
HVAC, Fire Protection and Plumbing layout and drafting with minimal supervision
Adhere to Integral design checklist
Be familiar with and enforce Integral AutoCAD Standards
Prepare mechanical/electrical motor list and equipment schedules with assistance provided by senior staff
Prepare equipment selections using Integral selection procedures with assistance provided by senior staff
Interface with other disciplines involved in the project design team (i.e. Architects, Structural Consultants, Electrical Consultants, etc.) to co-ordinate mechanical requirements.Assistance will be provided by senior staff
Co-ordinate service requirements/connections with the respective utility and/or municipal agencies
Review and process shop drawings with senior staff
Support on-the-job training and education for junior staff, in fundamentals of mechanical design, drafting practices, and contract administration
Assist in training junior staff and reviewing their work
Provide construction administration services as directed and supervised by senior staff
Develop various reports as directed by senior staff
Attend site surveys with senior staff
Detailed self-check of work prior to submitting any finished product

SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS

University degree or College diploma in Mechanical Engineering specialization is an asset
Minimum 4 years design experience in HVAC, Plumbing, and Fire Protection systems, preferably coupled with recent AutoCAD drafting experience
Ability to read Architectural, Structural, Electrical drawings with minimal supervision provided by senior staff
Ability to apply prescriptive requirements of plumbing building and sprinkler codes (i.e. NFPA, BCBC, BC Plumbing Code, etc.) with minimal supervision provided by senior staff
Knowledge of energy modeling and heating/cooling calculations is preferred
Operating knowledge of Revit is an asset
EIT or AScT classification, or eligibility to apply for PEng designation is an asset
