Project Officer – Clean Foundation – Dartmouth, Nova Scotia

We are currently seeking a hardworking, dynamic and motivated individual to add to our team who has a strong passion for people and the environment.  Our approach is always collaborative and team oriented.  In this stimulating role of Project Officer – Atlantic Stormwater Initiative  you will report to the Program Coordinator – Water.

Project Overview:
Clean Foundation’s Atlantic Stormwater Initiative aims to help communities adapt to the impacts of climate change through the adoption of stormwater best management practices. The purpose of this project is to bring together experts and stakeholders in the Atlantic region to develop a framework for stormwater management with common protocols, measures, language and symbols, and to implement learning sites. This project’s components consist of building a Stormwater Celebration Momentum map, organizing collaborative stormwater planning and decision making, and installing stormwater low-impact-development (LID) demonstration and learning sites across Atlantic Canada.

Position Overview:
The Project Officer will be involved in facilitating many aspects of the Atlantic Stormwater Initiative, which includes: project planning, research, identifying and engaging different stakeholders, mapping in GIS, using budgets, developing guidelines and synthesizing expert advice, organizing in-person and remote meetings and drafting workshop agendas. The Project Officer will also facilitate the organization of demonstration site LIDs, and installing signage to communicate their benefits. This portion of the job may involve heavy lifting, digging and working outdoors in adverse weather conditions for long periods of time. Also, the officer will help in the creation of common measures and language to communicate the function and value of LIDs to the general public.

Key Areas of Responsibility:

Research and identify local and regional stormwater experts and stakeholders;
Facilitate in-person and remote stakeholder workshops and meetings;
Initiate, plan and install various LIDs across Atlantic Canada;
Develop and deliver presentations on stormwater;
Synthesize data and information gained from workshops/meetings;
Liaise and communicate with various stakeholders in Atlantic Canada as part of planning and delivery;
Track and approve project expenditures within approval limit;
Perform basic administrative duties in support of the project and organizations as needed.

Position Requirements/Qualifications:

A degree or diploma in landscape architecture, engineering, water resource management, environmental science, geology or related field;
Experience organizing events and delivering community based outreach education and engagement activities;
Experience working with various stakeholders with different perspectives;
Knowledgeable about stormwater, and specific water issues in Atlantic Canada;
Strong communication, organization and attention to detail skills;
Strong computer skills; Outlook, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint);
Experience writing reports;
Must be a Canadian citizen or legally entitled to work in Canada;
Valid Canadian driver’s license;
Ability to lift heavy objects;
Ability to conduct physically demanding work outdoors in adverse weather conditions for extended periods of time;
Must demonstrate a passion for the environment;
Must be able to complete and pass a criminal background check;
Must be able to provide a Driver’s Abstract from the Registry of Motor Vehicle;
Experience with GIS techniques and managing data is considered an asset;
Experience designing and/or building LIDs considered an asset;
Experience working in a non-profit organization is considered an asset;
Valid First Aid and WHIMIS would be considered an asset.
