Position Overview
We currently have a career opportunity for a Senior Java Developer, who is enthusiastic and exhibits strong technical, problem solving, organizational, and communication skills to work in our St. John’s, NL office.

What you will achieve in this role
• The successful IT delivery of various business driven initiatives in the Home / Auto personal insurance space.
• Partner with Business Analysts and Architects to match functional specifications and technical execution to business requirements.
• Analyze complex to highly complex new functionality, changes and fixes to determine a technical solution not only meets immediate needs but considers the Businesses future needs
• Produce documentation fully describing the technical solution including affected programs, files, screens, databases, tables, and interfaces (High Level Designs – HLD). Work cooperatively to communicate the solution to various Architects and take on board recommendations from them.
• Develop program code that implements new functionality, changes or fixes and includes a balanced solution that anticipates future requirements and not just immediate needs Debug and apply fixes to production code.
• Develop and execute appropriate unit, systems, and integration test plans
• Mentor less experienced developers
• May be required to act as technical team lead on teams of 3-4 developers
• Occasional evening and weekend work maybe required for support purposes.
• Carry out complex work requirements as generally directed by Practice Leader working largely autonomously to meet needs of teams, projects and timelines. Expected to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
• Partner with the Quality Assurance teams to ensure business intent and quality standard is reflected in the testing of IT execution;

What you bring to this role
• Degree or diploma in Post-Secondary Computer Studies or Software Engineering.
• 5 – 10 years of experience as a Java developer.
• Strong analytical, problem solving, and troubleshooting abilities are essential.
• Prioritization and time management skills;
• Excellent organization and interpersonal skills
• Experience in the Insurance (Personal / Home-Auto) Industry is an asset
