Building Official I / Bylaw Enforcement – District of Oak Bay – Victoria, BC

One Year Temporary Assignment
Pay Grade 13 ($34.61 – $37.42 per hour – Jan. 1, 2016 rate)

The District is looking to fill a one year temporary assignment of Building Official 1, with bylaw enforcement duties as required.

The job involves skilled work including plan reviews and inspections primarily for standard (Building Code Part 9) buildings and structures, along with the application, interpretation and enforcement of building and plumbing codes, regulations and local bylaws pertaining to construction and land development within the municipality.

The position will be required, on an as and when needed basis, to investigate and resolve municipal bylaw violations.

The successful candidate will possess a Level 1 building inspection certification issued by the Building Officials Association of British Columbia, along with Bylaw Enforcement Level 1 training through the Justice Institute of BC (or obtain upon hire). The successful candidate will have good working knowledge of building and plumbing codes for the Province of BC, and have good working knowledge of local bylaws relating to the development of land including zoning, heritage, sign and fence regulation. Ability to read and interpret complex plans, specifications and drawings with at least six years directly related experience is a requirment. The successful candidate will have the ability to communicate clearly and professionally both orally and in writing, and will have the ability to organize inspection schedules and set priorities between multiple tasks.

This is a Union position (represented by CUPE Local 374).
