Mechanical Engineer

Duties and Responsibilities:

Responsible for all mechanical engineering aspects in the design, development and testing of new power conversion products, as well as providing technical support for legacy products
Specifically, provide design input in the areas of thermal management, ingress protection, EMI radiation shielding, vibration and shock survivability, product safety and mechanical human-machine interfaces.
Review customer specifications and requirements, provide input in developing technical solutions, and assist in the development of bids and proposals
Provide budget, cost and schedule inputs for engineering projects and job assignments
Generate engineering documentation in support of design activities and customer requirements, including specifications, test procedures and reports, failure reports, design analysis, and program progress reports
Develop content for and participate in internal and customer design reviews
Work collaboratively with Manufacturing, Supply Chain and Program Management to achieve material and labour design-to-cost targets
Participate in product quality improvement teams, Material Review Boards and Failure Review Boards
Adopt and support the company’s values and code of ethics

Qualifications:

Post-secondary degree in mechanical engineering
Minimum of 10 years’ experience in the design and development of mechanical assemblies in a light manufacturing environment, preferably involving the packaging of electrical and electronic equipment.
Expertise in structural and thermal analysis of mechanical assemblies
Strong analytical and creativity capabilities
A record of delivering cost effective and reliable designs within schedule and budget.
Excellent interpersonal, communication and writing skill
Strong problem solving and decision-making ability
Ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple tasks
Ability to travel within Canada and the United States
Ability to obtain a Government of Canada security clearance
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
Additional Desirable Qualifications Skills and Knowledge
Previous experience using CAD software, preferably 3D software, would be very desirable
Past experience in the defence industry would be an asset
Familiarity with both commercial and Military Standards as they apply to power conversion equipment
