Maintenance Manager – The Shaw Group Limited – East Hants, Nova Scotia

We are currently looking for a Maintenance Manager to join our management team at Shaw Resources.  This is a dynamic role that will involve Shaw Resources operations in the Hardwoodlands, NS, along with Coldbrook, NS and Belledune, NB.  There will be a requirement for some travel and working away from the home base in Hardwoodlands, NS.  Shaw Resources operates a maintenance shop along with a decentralized team of repair personnel held at each operation.

As an integral part of our team you will:

Provide leadership, coordination, and direction for maintenance to standardize across all operating units.
Establish and oversee the divisional preventative maintenance program and work with the management team concerning maintenance, prevention and repairs.
Be involved in the strategic direction and execution of significant repairs, fabrication upgrades, maintenance programs, and the purchase of significant operating assets.
Lead maintenance personnel and tradespeople in the achievement of departmental and divisional objectives.

You will be responsible for:

Promoting a safety conscious working environment.
Ensuring that all equipment is in safe working order in line with current regulations.
Working with operations managers in setting the appropriate priorities for preventive maintenance, efficient reporting, and tracking systems for inspection compliance.
Planning and forecasting to allow for the adequate approvals for the divisions maintenance budget.  Managing project costs and maintenance budgets.
Analysing and reporting on key performance indicators and industry trends.
Developing and implementing new business strategies for creating or improving processes and procedures to improve productivity and minimize down time.
Leading a team of multi-disciplined maintenance technicians and trades people.
Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications

High School diploma, G.E.D. or equivalent.
Post-Secondary academic diploma or degree in a technical field is an asset (ie. Millwright, Engineering).
Previous management experience in a manufacturing environment with proven technical competency.
Effective leadership skills, with a strong focus on operations and business processes.
Knowledge of aggregate and wood pellet manufacturing equipment and mobile equipment a strong asset.
Able to identify key issues and keen sense of judgement as to when to lead, direct, and/or get hands-on.
Holds a clear and solid understanding of personnel policies, practices, and procedures and other operational issues faced by the organization.
Effective attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.
Maintains a high level of integrity, confidentially, and accountability.
Sound analytical thinking, planning, prioritization, and execution skills.
Maintains a well-defined sense of diplomacy, conflict resolution, and people management skills.
