A challenging opportunity exists for an experienced professional Senior Planner to play a key role in managing projects and major rezoning, subdivision, and development applications. This position requires the individual to demonstrate and draw on expertise acquired from extensive, varied and progressively more responsible levels of professional planning experience. This fast-paced position offers significant opportunities for individuals demonstrating strong, positive leadership, teamwork abilities, customer service focus and proven analytical and policy formulating skills.

Our dedicated employees work with a variety of stakeholders to develop innovative and unique solutions for the complexities of rural and urban development.  The Senior Planner will work independently or in teams as the situation dictates. Presentations to Council, Boards and Committees are an integral component of the scope of duties. The Senior Planner will also act as a resource person and mentor for Development Officers, Junior Planners and other department employees.

Specific Duties:

Develop project plans, coordinate teams, set priorities, provide progress reports and make recommendations on project delivery to management. Conduct research and technical analysis, review land use amendments, subdivision and development applications and outline plans, as required and formulate recommendations.
Prepare planning policies and technical reports, and present recommendations to the appropriate approving authority.
Explain planning policies and decisions and provide professional planning advice to internal and external stakeholders.
Coordinate the implementation of approved planning policies by communicating changes to internal and external stakeholders.

Qualifications:
The successful applicant must possess a recognized degree in Planning and a minimum of five (5) to seven (7) years of progressively more responsible and varied planning experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience and experience involving projects in urban and rural municipalities. The successful applicant must also be eligible to become registered professional planner with the Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP).

In addition, applicants will demonstrate the following competencies:

Experience involving a broad range of projects in an urban/rural municipality, preferably in the responsibility area identified above.
Proven track record of planning accomplishments.
Sensitivity to the business and political environment; sound judgment.
Through knowledge of planning legislation.
The ability to effectively negotiate and bring about good solutions.
Excellent communication skills; working knowledge of computerized analysis techniques appropriate to the profession; and superior planning analysis techniques.
Proven leadership skills.
Able to motivate staff and adapt to a variety of work environments.
Ability to work effectively in a customer-oriented and collaborative working environment.
Ability to work with tight timelines.
The ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing with a broad range of people within the Town Administration and the community.
Ability to work on an independent basis and as a team member.
