Vascular Plant Technician – University of Alberta – Northeastern Alberta

The Applied Conservation Ecology (ACE) Lab at the University of Alberta and the Alberta Biodiversity Monitoring Institute (ABMI) are seeking 4 summer technicians for work on 3 different vascular plant projects for summer 2015.

Location: Northeastern Alberta
Position: Vascular Plant Technician
Salary: $2600-2900/month. Travel, food and accommodation in the field are provided

Duration: Highly flexible start date, late May/June to August 31st, 2015

Description:

Responsibilities include vascular plant inventories and rare plant meander surveys both on and off oil and gas lease areas as well as work with translocated rare species. Additional work with animal recording units (ARU’s) and other projects may be available. Plant training is provided, however candidates are expected to have previous vascular plant experience. Applicable safety training will be provided. A class 5 drivers license or equivalent is required for all positions.

Ideal candidate attributes will include:

Experience identifying boreal plant species, particularly rare species
Experience using basic field equipment such as GPS’, compass, ATV’s and 4×4 vehicles
Diligent and accurate data collection abilities
A positive attitude and desire to learn more about rare and common plant species!
