The District of Tumbler Ridge is looking for a dynamic and energetic individual to be the municipality’s Chief Administrative Officer (CAO). The CAO will be charged with the responsibility to assist Mayor and Council in defining and delivering the strategic vision and priorities of the community as well as providing administrative leadership and guidance to the municipal operations.

Tumbler Ridge is a unique community of 2,700 population nestled in the Rocky Mountains of northeast B.C. A resource community servicing the metallurgical coal industry, oil and gas industry and wind-power industry, also enjoys the special designation of being Canada’s second UNESCO World Geopark and features numerous dinosaur bone bed deposits. This challenging CAO leadership opportunity is a result of an administrative governance review and will give the incumbent the opportunity to design and mold the senior administrative governance structure to better serve Council and the community.

Reporting to the Mayor and Council, the CAO will be responsible for Council – staff – community communication, the general administrative management and operations of the municipality, human resource design and management, as well as legal proceedings relating to the municipality.

The ideal candidate will have proven working experience in a local government environment that demonstrates a knowledge and understanding of legislative local governance and day to day local government service delivery. A post-secondary degree in Public Administration or Certificate in Local Government Administration along with certification from the Province of BC, Board of Examiners is a preferred asset.

The CAO will have demonstrated knowledge and progressive experience in local government management, operations and community – Council relations.
