Term: One year maternity leave. Part-time.

Frontier College is a national, non-profit literacy organization which was founded in 1899. We work with children, teens, adults and families who need help to improve their literacy skills. We work in partnership with organizations to deliver volunteer-run, community-based programs across Canada. Through volunteer mobilization, youth leadership development and community capacity building we enable communities to reach their literacy and learning goals. Many of our programs are delivered through a national network of university campus-based initiatives.

Sudbury

Frontier College currently runs one-to-one and small group tutoring programs for children in Sudbury. We also provide parent and community workshops. We are seeking a part-time Community Coordinator who will work with volunteers and partners to manage local programming activities. Travel in the Sudbury area is required.

Overall Accountability
The Community Coordinator is a member of the Southern Ontario program staff team and works both independently and collaboratively to carry out and promote the work of Frontier College in the community. The Community Coordinator has direct responsibility for volunteers and interns. This position reports to the Regional Manager for Southern Ontario.

Major Duties and Responsibilities
Coordinate and provide leadership to Frontier College community programs in consultation with Supervisor
Mobilize, train, supervise and support volunteers to work in the community.
Develop, sustain, monitor and evaluate partnerships, pilot projects and model programs.
Recruit and supervise volunteer organizational teams and interns.
Coordinate community-based summer programs.
Design, deliver and evaluate workshops and presentations.
Implement volunteer management policies and practices.
Participate in program planning, evaluation and special projects.
Manage program budgets and information and provide reports.
Represent Frontier College in the region.

Skills and Attributes
Knowledge of how to develop, implement and evaluate effective non-formal education programs.
One to three years of relevant work experience.
Experience with volunteers, with community settings, and diverse populations.
Energetic, resourceful, and flexible.
Able to think critically, solve problems and manage details.
Works well independently and as part of a team.
Able to build leadership skills in university students
Skills in volunteer management, community outreach, partnership development, project management, and team building.
Strong administrative and organizational skills.
Ability to facilitate workshops and coordinate conferences.
Excellent negotiation, communication and public speaking skills.
Computer skills (MS Word, Outlook, Excel and Internet).
Organized, able to manage multiple tasks and deal with stress.
Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle.
Ability to work evenings and weekends as required.
