Manager of Privacy – Newfoundland and Labrador Centre for Health Information – St. John’s

The Newfoundland and Labrador Centre for Health Information’s (the Centre’s) Privacy Office is responsible for providing privacy-related guidance on its internal operations, the provincial electronic health record (EHR) and other provincially-mandated eHealth projects. To support the Centre’s mandate of providing quality information, the Privacy Office is seeking a highly motivated and detail-driven Manager of Privacy.

Reporting to the Director of Infrastructure and Information Protection, you will provide oversight and leadership of the Privacy Team and be responsible for establishing privacy standards for the Centre’s corporate operations, the provincial EHR and other mandated provincial eHealth projects. You will act as privacy liaison with external stakeholders including the Regional Health Authorities, the Department of Health and Community Services and Canada Health Infoway. You will be responsible for the oversight, assessment and management of risks to privacy as identified through privacy impact assessments. You will also be responsible for oversight and management of compliance with provincial and federal legislation, Centre policies, procedures and best practises.

To be successful in this role, you must have excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships. You must be familiar with all federal and provincial laws concerning information security and privacy and demonstrate knowledge of information privacy issues and information systems. The ability to understand and communicate technical and legal information coupled with excellent analytical, problem-solving, and advisory skills is required.

If you have a diploma or degree combined with a minimum of five years of operational privacy experience or relevant work experience in the health care or IT environment, you should consider applying for this role. Privacy certifications such as the University of Alberta Information Access and Protection of Privacy Certificate Program; International Association of Privacy Professionals Certified Information Privacy Professional; and the Canadian Association of Professional Access and Privacy Administrators Access and Privacy Professional Certification would be considered an asset. Please note that equivalent combinations of education, training and experience will be considered.
