Program Coordinator – Pacific Salmon Foundation – Vancouver, British Columbia

The Pacific Salmon Foundation (http://www.psf.ca) seeks a full-time Program Coordinator to support the delivery and development of the Skeena Salmon Program (http://www.skeenasalmonprogram.ca). This program works to foster healthy, diverse, and abundant wild salmon populations in northern BC. The program has a current focus on projects that improve our understanding of the status of salmon populations and their habitat, through the assembly and analysis of baseline data, identification of high-priority monitoring needs, and communication of project results to a broad audience.

The Program Coordinator supports the day-to-day functioning and strategic delivery of the Skeena Salmon Program (SSP). The successful applicant can expect to have a dynamic role, responsive to changing program priorities and needs; however, primary responsibilities will emphasize data management, communicating project results, general program communications, grant development and administration, and project administration.

Key Responsibilities

Provide overall support for the delivery of the Skeena Salmon Program, with an emphasis on data management, communicating project results, general program communications, grant development and administration, and project administration.
Play an integral role in the development of a data visualization platform, including acting as the primary contact for external contractors and internal project coordinator.
Produce GIS maps for communicating project results, program planning, and third-party communication.
Support initiatives to acquire, assemble, and manage existing data sets and provide third-party data access.
Lead aspects of program communications, including maintenance of program website and content development. Review project outputs to ensure consistency with program messaging and visual identity.
Contribute to the development of grant proposals and grant reporting, including the preparation of financial summaries. Collaborate with SSP staff on ongoing management of existing grants.
Provide overall administrative and logistical support, including contract management, expense tracking, meeting logistics, and other duties.

Required Skills, Education, and Experience

An undergraduate degree in fisheries, environmental science, biology, geography, natural resource management, or a related field, with at least three years work experience in fisheries or natural resource management, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Additional related post-graduate education (e.g. postgraduate GIS diploma, Master’s degree) is considered an asset.
Significant course work or certification in GIS, or equivalent experience, is required.

Experience working with external funding agencies and developing grant proposals. Experience in a not-for-profit team environment with similar responsibilities is preferred.
Strong data management and analytical skills (e.g. statistics and/or spatial analysis) and experience using statistical software, GIS software (ArcGIS, QGIS, or equivalent), Excel, Access, and/or other database applications.
Strong computer and web skills, including experience with WordPress or an equivalent CMS.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and comfortable working with diverse stakeholder groups on contentious resource management issues.
Experience communicating technical information to a broad audience, including First Nations, decision makers, scientists, and civil society.
The ability to work independently and within a team environment and to demonstrate a high degree of initiative. The ability to exercise tact, discretion, diplomacy and maintain confidentiality.
Experience with strategic planning and project management is an asset.

Terms of Employment

This is a full-time position based in Vancouver. The successful applicant will be eligible for enrollment in the PSF Benefit Plan, including extended health and dental, and the PSF Retirement Savings Plan. The contract term is September 8, 2015 to Nov 30, 2016, with the possibility for extension contingent on funding. There is also the possibility for an earlier start date, depending on both the availability of the successful applicant and the schedule of the SSP.
