Health and Safety Coordinator – City of North Battleford – North Battleford, SK

North Battleford is a growing well-connected city with a population of approx 14,000, is located on the Trans Canada Yellowhead Highway and serves as a service centre to Northwest Saskatchewan. The City of North Battleford is seeking a dynamic & enthusiastic person who is ready to manage a challenging but rewarding role as a Health & Safety Coordinator.  This position will report to the HR Director and is responsible for the effective and efficient operation of the City’s Health and Safety Programs in accordance with established regulations and statutes.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES of this position include, but are not limited to:

Manage all aspects of City Safety Programs, reviewing and updating as necessary in accordance with City Policy and OHS legislation.
Coordinate & conduct formal & informal safety inspections as required; oversee accident/incident investigation reporting; WCB claims investigating and reporting.
Train & advise members of internal OHS Committees; ‘Go To’ person for Safety advice.
Ensure all City employees and contractors comply with OHS regulations; perform field inspections; issue stop work orders to those who are working unsafely.
Administers a training program to ensure staff are fully trained & qualified to perform expected duties.
Promotes an open relationship with clear & concise communication with all City employees.
Keeps HR Director and City Manager abreast of all Safety Practices.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILL/KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:

Preferred formal education in Occupational Health & Safety &/or  a minimum of 3-5 years of related work experience or related discipline and will have experience at a management/supervisory level, preferably in a union/non-unionized municipal environment.
Assets will include: CRSP certification, Safety tickets such as WHMIS, Confined Space, H2S Alive, First Aid/CPR, etc., knowledge & experience working with WCB, disability and return-to-work practices, as well as working in a diverse union/non-unionized team environment.
Excellent verbal & written communication, negotiation, organizational, planning and time management skills assuming responsibility while working independently.
Strong commitment to customer service, professionalism, community, enthusiasm and motivation.
Must have a valid Sask driver’s licence and an intermediate skill level in MS Office software.
Criminal record check required prior to start date.
