About this position:
Working alongside the executive producers, the head of development is responsible for overseeing & managing a roster of directors, cinematographers & photographers represented within the Canadian advertising industry.

This role will lead, manage and develop the photography division of the business. They are required to exercise leadership, demonstrate vision, and empower the team in order to deliver the highest possible industry standard.

Responsibilities include:
Communications
Work alongside the executive producers with directors, cinematographers, photographers, heads of department, production partners & clients to deliver both small and large-scale projects
Monitor business trends and identify opportunities for Someplace Nice to formulate strategies to caplitalise on both on a national and international level
Establish a communication plan designed to support the business strategy; coordinate with executive producers, directors, cinematographers & photographers to extract relevant news that engage the Canadian market and develop new business
Enforce consistent messaging across Someplace Nice through press releases, presentations, collateral, website, and all communication mechanisms including awards and film festival submissions
Craft internal and external messaging plans and timelines based on industry events, Someplace Nice accomplishments and strategic opportunities
Maintain production databases and communicate with staff, production partners & clients
The ability to develop and maintain long-term relationships with our strategic partners
Represent Someplace Nice at industry award shows, functions and events; including the Cannes Lion International Festival of Creativity to establish & maintain relationships with international production partners; seek new business opportunities and continue to build the company brand
Organise and maintain schedules for directors, cinematographers & photographers

Broadcast & Photography Production
Establish production schedules, track progress and report project updates
Establish and maintain communication within each new business pitch team
Develop creative ideas throughout new business pitching process
Manage elements of new business pitch presentation, including visual research; storyboarding; production of a professional creative treatment within budget
Provide editorial assistance during the writing process; often involving proofreading or polishing text. Candidates should have strong grammar and communication skills.
Prepare and control the production budget
Run the day-to-day business of a production as the line producer (project to project basis)
Post-production supervision of editing, visual effects, sound & voice over, colour transfer, retouching, composition; and final delivery
Maintain an archive of all company projects; this includes a digital archive of HD video files as well as a physical archive of hard drives & back ups
Provide information and support to other production management teams

General
Overseeing the digitization and distribution of company’s video files in various formats — including web-based video hosting, and physical presentation reels (USB, or DVD). Proficiency in video editing and video compression techniques is a major requirement. Experience with QuickTime + Compressing files.
Devise and maintain office systems, including data management
Serving as a first-response for office IT issues (i.e. resolving email & internet problems; helping employees update software and maintain system backups, and researching new equipment purchases). This is not a professional IT position, but candidates should have the ability to troubleshoot

Requirements:
5+ years working in the film production industry
5+ years working in the advertising industry
Public Relations experience
Line producing experience
Post-production experience
Bachelor’s degree in film, art, communications or related field
Established relationships with key decision makers in the Toronto advertising industry
An in-depth knowledge of the filmmaking & photography process
Outstanding organizational skills and attention to detail coupled with exceptional people skills and the ability to motivate within a team environment
Strong project management skills and a sensitivity towards deadline related deliveries
Must be able to handle multiple changing priorities in a dynamic environment and understand how this impacts departmental schedules
Must be diligent, resourceful, meticulous and able to thrive under pressure with conflicting deadlines
An independent worker who excels at communicating across all levels of an organization
Excellent written and verbal skills
Advertising agency experience is a plus
Short film or documentary film production experience is a plus
International advertising industry experience is a plus
Proficient in Adobe Suite (Photoshop, InDesign)
Proficient in Excel/Point Zero
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
Simian / Wiredrive or equivalent content management system
Proficient in Social media (Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, WordPress)
Proficient in standard Mac Software (Pages, Numbers)
