Assistant Instructor Position:
Wilderness Survival Homeschool Program

Youth ages 8-13
May 4-June 22
8am-4pm
Victoria BC

Qualifications and Expectations:

1 or more years of professional experience mentoring youth using nature-based mentoring and coyote mentoring techniques, in a group setting, ages 8-13
committed to accountability and follow through, being on time, and maintaining a clean appearance
Strong group facilitation and outdoor leadership skills
Excellent communication skills and ability to use Non-Violent Communication (NVC) techniques
Effective communicate with staff, parents, children and families
Experience in designing intricate, interactive group activities
Ability to positively set and communicate boundaries for youth
Experienced and confident storyteller and song leader
Physically fit
Skillful in facilitating a wide range of group processes and in guiding students in integrating their experiences
Professional experience facilitating rites of passage, process work, and/or personal transformation
Prepared to participate in planning and debrief meetings
Willing to be involved in the process of giving and receiving feedback as a way to grow as a mentor and leader
Competent in wilderness survival and ancestral skills, friction fire, natural crafts, edible and medicinal plants, stewardship, naturalist skills, mammals and tracking, natural awareness and bird language
Up to date Wilderness First Aid and CPR training
Up to date police information check
Valid driver’s license
Passion for learning, nature, building community, growing as a person, and living life to the fullest!

Preference will be given to those who:

Graduated from a year-long wilderness immersion program (Wilderness Awareness School, Twin Eagles Wilderness School, or equivalent)
Graduated from a year-long nature-based mentoring leadership training program (Anake Leadership Program or equivalent)
Background in ecopsychology, rites of passage, group process work
Graduated from the Kamana Naturalist Training Program

Wage: $95/day (wage may increase depending on experience and expertise)

• 8 hours/day (includes 2 hours of set up, debrief, and mentor development training)
