Senior Accountant – Squamish Lillooet Regional District – Squamish, BC

The Squamish-Lillooet Regional District (SLRD) is located in southwestern BC and consists of 4 member municipalities (Squamish, Whistler, Pemberton, Lillooet) and 4 electoral areas.  The region contains some of the most spectacular forests, waterways, and mountains in the province and affords an endless range of opportunities for outdoor adventure.

Headquartered in Pemberton, which is the approximate geographic centre of the region, the SLRD delivers a wide range of regional, sub-regional and local services to its residents. Services include land use planning, solid waste management, building inspection, fire protection, emergency preparedness, 911 services, recreation, water and sewer utilities, regional transit, trails and open spaces as well as financial support for various community services.

The SLRD is seeking an experienced individual to perform a number of intermediate to senior level accounting duties and payroll functions in support of and under the direction of the Director of Finance.  This is a diverse, permanent, full-time position.

The ideal candidate will have a Professional Accounting Designation, or be enrolled in such a program, with a minimum of 5 years accounting experience preferably within a Regional District or Municipality.  Candidates must have a good understanding and application of computer systems and superior interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work within deadlines.  The candidate will be a self-starter, with an ability to interact with internal and external customers and manage a variety of tasks simultaneously.

In addition, the ideal candidate will also possess demonstrated skills, knowledge, expertise and experience in the following areas:

Payroll
Accounts receivable, accounts payable, monthly accounts reconciliation
Budgeting
Assistance with monthly and annual financial statements
Meeting internal and external financial and other reporting requirements
Cash and investment management
Research in support of development and implementation of financial controls and systems.
Excellent organizational, administrative and computer systems knowledge and skills
Self-motivation with appreciation for being part of a team
Previous local government experience, knowledge of Public Sector Accounting Standards and familiarity with Agresso software would be considered definite assets

Compensation will be determined commensurate with knowledge, skills and ability, includes a comprehensive benefit package and Municipal Pension Plan and offers the ability to work a compressed work week (nine-day fortnight).
