Wildlife Preservation Canada (WPC) is Canada’s acknowledged expert resource in direct intervention programs for saving endangered animal species from extinction. WPC is the only non-government organization in Canada to be involved in innovative, leading edge and effective conservation techniques with multiple species in multiple projects across the country.

We are celebrating our 30th anniversary this year and want to leverage this milestone to build awareness of WPC and our important work through a celebration of our past successes, current projects and our future plans. As part of the celebration WPC will have a 30th Anniversary Celebration to be held on October 15, 2015.

Position Overview

The Event Planner or Marketing and Communication Specialist is responsible for developing, planning and executing the marketing strategy for the WPC 30th Anniversary and for developing the promotional strategy for our key event, WPC’s 30th Anniversary Celebration.

Specifically we are looking to use this special anniversary as an opportunity to accomplish the following objectives:

Engage existing donors to enhance loyalty and encourage donations on an ongoing basis
Re-engage past donors and board members, to get them excited about what we’ve done and re-committed to the organization’s future
Build awareness among potential new donors, through social media, the Anniversary Celebration and our personal networks
Showcase the past, present and future of the organization to existing and potential partner organizations
Continue to establish WPC as the go-to authority on endangered species recovery to the media

Responsibilities include:

Drafting a Communications Plan which addresses the messaging, content, and timetable to reach target groups and a method for measuring results
Work with staff to develop and implement marketing and communications efforts
Recommend most cost effective media channels and appropriate messaging and assist with implementation
Recommend social media strategy and work with staff to implement.
Develop a video that can be used to promote WPC at the Anniversary Celebration or other anniversary events
Assist with execution of 30th Anniversary Celebration on October 15, 2015

Qualifications

Enthusiasm for animal conservation and ability to communicate science to the general public
Degree in Marketing, Communications, Media, Public Relations or event planning
Experience creating and implementing communications and brand marketing plans, marketing collateral and experience on all social media platforms.
Experience with non-profit organizations and various donor constituents including foundations, corporations, government and high net worth individuals
Excellent writing skills
Ability to meet tight deadlines
Proficiency in Excel for tracking and analysing data and in setting up a system to track and evaluate different communication channels and messages
Experience working with different media channels
Experience in video production
Creativity and ability to work with small budgets
