The City of Burnaby is actively recruiting two Assistant Chief Building Inspectors for our Planning and Building Department. As a key member of the Building Division’s senior leadership team, you will have the opportunity to grow your skill set across a multitude of departmental areas such as Business Process Initiatives, Plan Checking, Customer Service, Inspections and Bylaw Enforcement. This position ensures consistent enforcement of applicable statues and acts as a technical resource in the area of building regulations. The Assistant Chief Building Inspector also supervises and leads a staff team. This is an exciting opportunity to secure a role in a leadership capacity which will allow you to master all facets of the Building Division.
Qualifications include
university graduation in Engineering or Architecture supplemented by courses in fire protection systems as well as senior management experience relating to the construction industry in a fast paced, technically diverse and challenging customer service environment. The ACBI role requires considerable knowledge of: BC Building Code and the National Fire Protection Association standards; building construction techniques including building, electrical, plumbing and gas, for all types of buildings; principles of structural, geotechnical, mechanical and electrical engineering; rules, regulations and policies governing departmental operations and the work performed. This role requires the ability to: solve complex technical problems, plan, organize, direct and evaluate the work of a diversified group of subordinates, perform research tasks; analyze technical data; prepare comprehensive technical reports and recommendations related to the work, communicate effectively orally and in writing, be innovative and adaptive to changing conditions. Membership in the Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia (EGBC) or Architectural Institute of BC (AIBC). Building Officials Association of British Columbia (BOABC) Level 3 Qualification or registration as a Certified Professional is preferred; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Also required is a Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia.

Hours of work: 80 hours bi-weekly; 8:00 AM to 5:30 PM with a nine-day fortnight schedule.
