Chief Facility Maintenance Operator – District of Sparwood

The District of Sparwood, located in the Southern Canadian Rockies just west of the British Columbia – Alberta boarder, is one of BC’s most respected rural communities. Sparwood is situated in the Elk Valley and is an incredible place to live, work and play especially if you love the outdoors. Sparwood is the gateway to Southeastern BC and provides the outdoor enthusiast endless summer and winter activities. Winter activities include snowmobiling, x-country skiing, backcountry and resort skiing and during the summer, there is world class fly fishing, hunting, climbing, mountaineering, and mountain biking. Sparwood is home to over 3600 residents with an additional 20,000 residents residing in the neighboring communities of the Elk Valley and Crows Nest Pass. Sparwood’s recreation infrastructure rivals that of a community significantly larger and is known to have the best facilities in the valley.

Reporting to the Director of Community & Facility Services the Chief Facility Maintenance Operator is responsible for overseeing the Districts recreation infrastructure maintenance programs. The Chief is responsible for the training and supervision of the maintenance team who maintain the community’s arena, curling rink, leisure pool, fitness centre and sports fields; they work with the Public Work department to maintain local parks and trails and assist in the maintaining of all District public buildings.

The ideal candidate for this position will have at least 5-years’ experience in facility maintenance in a supervisory capacity. Candidates must have a valid 5th Class Power Engineers Certificate or higher, Arena Ice Makers Certificate, Pool Operator II, extensive knowledge in preventative maintenance programs and the principles, functions and operations of heating, cooling and ventilation systems. The ideal candidate will have strong organizational, interpersonal, leadership and communication skills and demonstrated success in working effectively in a team orientated environment.
