Director of Communications – ALUS Canada

Reporting directly to the CEO, every day you will:
lead the development, implementation and execution of annual strategic communications plans to deliver results-oriented and measurable communications that support ALUS’ stated strategic priorities and business goals
direct and inspire the Communications team (including staff and suppliers) to deliver on time and on budget external communication collaterals, government relations and fundraising materials, corporate communications and internal/employee messaging
execute initiatives to grow ALUS awareness through media relations, advertising and social campaigns, and community outreach and engagement
support fundraising teams by developing innovative communication initiatives that celebrate donors, corporate sponsors and associated projects while meeting ALUS’ strategic objectives
effectively steward the brand to ensure the organization’s image and messaging is clearly and consistently represented by all ALUS community members and play an instrumental role in anticipating and assessing reputational risk
develop meaningful measurement vehicles to track and report results for all communications efforts
serve as ALUS’ expert for current best practices in content creation, digital strategy, media relations, crisis communications and all things related to public-facing and internal communications.
lead the “Content Creation Machine” project-based team, including communications staff and regional
ALUS Hub Managers
deliver a multi-lingual strategy to raise the organization’s profile worldwide
Here’s what will help you thrive
10+ years’ experience in progressively senior roles leading communications and digital strategies and delivering proven results for either corporate, non-profit or charitable organizations
a passion for leading, coaching and developing teams and coworkers to exceed individual and collective objectives
excellent presentation and written communication skills – you are committed to telling engaging, memorable and impactful stories
experience managing complex, long-term projects with many phases and approvals processes, on time and on budget.

strong analytical, critical thinking, influencing skills and financial acumen

comfortable leveraging digital communications tools (WordPress, MailChimp, Hootsuite) to track metrics, report results, and course correct as needed
minimum undergraduate degree in business, marketing or a related discipline; MBA valued, but not required
fluent in English and French

About ALUS
One of Canada’s best kept secrets, ALUS is a Canadian not-for-profit committed to reducing GHG emissions, improving water quality and increasing biodiversity on agricultural land by empowering farmers and ranchers to play a pivotal role in conservation and sustainability by building nature on their land one acre at a time.
ALUS began in 2006 in Blanshard, Manitoba and by 2020 has been voluntarily adopted by 27 communities in six provinces across Canada.
Participating community partners lead program governance with more than 900 farmers and ranchers enrolled managing more than 27,000 acres.
