Extension Assistant – Field Staff – Kwantlen Polytechnic University – Vancouver BC

SUMMARY
The Extension Assistant Field Staff at the Tsawwassen First Nation Farm School (TFNFS) will assist in seasonal field work including harvesting, weeding, animal husbandry, crop maintenance, and various other field tasks. As an education farm dedicated to regenerative farming practices and local food systems, this position requires someone who is passionate about regenerative agriculture, building local food systems, and food systems education.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Performing all farm tasks including transplanting, harvesting, post processing, weeding and seeding
Provide basic animal care for livestock which includes chickens and hogs
Lead and teach farm students and volunteers in basic farm tasks

QUALIFICATIONS
2+ years farm experience
A keen interest in small-scale, regenerative agriculture
Strong communication skills
Experience leading students and volunteers
Physical ability to lift 45lbs repeatedly
Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision
Ability to work outside in all weather
Interest in working with a diversity of people including the Tsawwassen First Nation community
Valid First Aid Certificate an asset
Class 5 driver’s license
Access to a vehicle for commuting to and from the farm is an asset
