Ottawa Coordinator and Facilitator – Relay Education

Job Description
Relay Education utilizes STEM based learning in all of our programs. Relay’s programming is delivered to educate students about science curriculum-linked topics, such as electricity, energy resources & conservation, and career building. In this role, the successful candidate will work primarily with students in elementary and secondary students either in classrooms or online across the Ottawa region to lead workshops that use hands-on models of renewable energy technology, such as wind turbines and solar panels. They will deliver Relay Education’s renewable energy education and “green collar” career workshops in schools; market the programming to schools and teachers and maintain workshop equipment and supplies.

Applicants must:
Be between the ages of 15 to 30 years as of the start of the placement.
Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person with refugee protection in Canada.
Be legally able to work in Canada according to relevant laws and regulations of the province or territory of residence.
Currently un- or under-employed.
Bilingual in French and English (speaking, reading, and writing)

Duties and Responsibilities
The Ottawa Coordinator will report directly to our Programs Manager. They will be responsible for the delivery of our schools and educational programs. The successful candidate will:
Work collaboratively with Relay Education staff to coordinate the charity’s programming in the Ottawa, Quebec and eastern provinces in Canada;
Communicate in both French and English with teachers and educators in the Ottawa region to register and evaluate workshops;
Cultivate and maintain partnerships with regional government agencies, corporate donors and sponsors;
Deliver renewable energy STEM and environmental career awareness workshops online and in person as possible (dependent on COVID restrictions) to schools and for community groups as needed. This includes preparing for workshops in advance, travelling to workshop sites as necessary and setting up all required supplies and equipment;
Represent RELAY Education in outreach / community festival events throughout the year in Ottawa, Quebec and throughout Canada;
Ensure education equipment is adequately stocked, sanitized, and maintained;
Communicate with teachers or event organizers to coordinate logistical arrangements;
Administer program evaluation by communicating with teachers and other participants to complete surveys following workshops;
Work with the marketing manager to provide photos and information for posts and social media.

Qualifications
Experience in teaching and speaking to various age levels and diverse audiences;
Familiarity with the Ontario Science Curriculum;
Knowledge of and passion for the science and technology of energy, renewable energy, energy conservation and environmental issues;
Demonstrated bilingual (French and English) communication skills (oral and written) and ability to interact positively with various audiences;
Excellent time-management and organizational skills;
Ability to take initiative and be accountable for decisions;
Sense of humour and team oriented work ethic;
Adept at using Microsoft software, familiarity with Mac platforms is an asset;
Ability to lift 20-50 pounds easily and frequently;
Ability to take initiative and be accountable for decisions;
Reliable access to a vehicle is required
Valid G Drivers License is required
Fluency in both French and English is required
Vulnerable Sector Screening clearance necessary for hire
