Senior Strategist, Canada Banks – The Sunrise Project – Alberta

About the job
The Sunrise Project coordinates network campaigns in close partnership with a diverse set of partners and allies across Canada and around the world. The Canada banks campaign is a growing national network challenging Canada’s biggest banks to stop their significant financing of fossil fuel expansion and respect Indigenous rights in their financing decisions. This network consists of many of the country’s most prominent climate NGO’s, working with Indigenous groups, academic, and grassroots partners. We are part of a global network, Bank On Our Future, seeking a transition to clean energy finance.
This Senior Strategist role drives and grows the campaign, contributes new insights on strategy and tactical ideas, coordinates tactics across the network, identifies campaign moments and rapid response, supports individual partners to thrive and shares decision making in a collaborative and transparent manner across the network.

About You
You’re an experienced strategist and campaigner who understands how campaigns build power and change the world. While you’re skilled at developing big picture strategy and identifying opportunities for impact, you also enjoy the nitty gritty of implementation, trying new ideas and taking calculated risks.
You’re a team player with exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with diverse partner groups to support them to do their best work. You have understanding and experience with all aspects of a modern advocacy campaign – from policy and regulation work to grassroots organizing to digital tactics and media – and are comfortable switching codes based on the people and task at hand. You can work independently and juggle multiple concurrent projects, and have a track record centering equity and justice in your approach to leadership and to campaigning more generally. You are comfortable sharing insights and decision making in transparent ways, and being held accountable to both our organization and the diverse network you are coordinating.
You’re passionate about solving the climate crisis, and excited to be part of a dedicated team working at the new and growing intersection of finance and climate and supporting social and climate justice movements to create real change. Prior knowledge of finance is not required.
