We are seeking an Americas Rail Operations and Systems Leader for our Toronto Office.  The role requires first-rate skills in the fields related to light rail, transit and rail systems, including  a thorough knowledge of transit and rail systems design and project management, within an environment of collaboration, quality and timeliness.  In addition, incumbent in this role will be an expert in their own field, as well as having a good all round knowledge of rail and rail systems in the context of rail project planning, design, construction and operations. Further, the role requires that the incumbent be able to build a business and identify opportunities for growth and establish excellent client relationships.

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

Responsible for business development and promotion of Arup capability at a multi-discipline or single discipline basis, including the formation of links with collaborator and partner firms for teaming.
Responsible for the expansion of the client and contact base in Canada both east and western provinces.
To collaborate with colleagues, and operate with enthusiasm and a sense of purpose for the successful delivery of projects, the businesses, and Arup.
As this candidate will be representing Arup he/she must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and be able to work internally with the Arup Rail Team.
Leading all aspects of projects and coordinating design input from remote working with Arup offices and/or sub-consultants to meet the requirements of a variety of large to small rail projects.
Responsible for the project management/direction of multidisciplinary design teams from concept design through to feasibility design, and to detailed design, commissioning and project close out as well as single discipline projects.
Work content includes approving or checking: preliminary and detailed layouts; technical studies and reports; generation and evaluation of technical design options; design calculations and analysis; specialized report writing and interfacing with other disciplines.
Work will also include concept design, feasibility design and operations.
Will oversee Commissioning activities.
Responsible for own tasks and tasks of team to agreed timescales.
Responsible for attending in-house and external training sessions, and for keeping record of own training and personal development.
Operating in accordance with Quality Assurance procedures.
Contributing to the development of good practice within discipline(s) through involvement with skills networks.
Liaise with relevant external parties to ensure understanding of the client’s needs and project requirements.
Liaise with relevant leaders to establish resourcing needs.
Be involved in recruitment and activities including skills evaluation.
Act as a contact between the Staff Group and skills networks to share best practices and to develop Arup Americas rail project capability
Responsible for identifying resource requirements to contribute to budget setting and monitoring the cost effective delivery of projects.
The post will require travel in Canada and the USA to seek, win and deliver projects.
The post offers scope for personal skill development, in relation to increasing rail systems capability, and the development of design management and business management capability, with increasing financial responsibility and accountability of project delivery.
Work within and lead railway project teams, including rail systems teams, liaising with other systems engineering professionals and interfacing with other disciplines and Clients on a wide variety of track and multidisciplinary railway projects, sometimes on a global basis.
The post holder will have regular contact and extensive liaison with other Arup rail specialists and teams globally. Will frequently travel to meet with Clients, sub-consultants, collaborators and partners at various sites and offices.
Will chair meetings and provide the lead on railway design and project management matters for Arup as required to Clients, Contractors, and other railway infrastructure developers.

Required Qualifications:

Over 20 years of experience in the delivery of large rail projects in an international market;
Demonstrable experience in project management and deliver of rail projects worth $750 million and upwards;
A proven record in the delivery of such projects;
Proven client relationship management skills;
Proven business development skills;
Prior experience with overseeing commissioning activities;
Prior experience with leading discussions with tenderers and negotiating high-scale agreements;
Relevant Bachelor’s degree is an asset, but not mandatory.

Permanent, full-time position;

Salary – From CAD $220,000 and $280,000 per annum;
