Building Inspector – Bowen Island Municipality

A short ferry ride and a few kilometres from downtown Vancouver, Bowen Island is home to 3,800 permanent residents and about 1,500 part-time residents in summer. It has the distinction of being B.C.’s only island municipality having incorporated in 1999.

Bowen Island Municipality is seeking a part-time Building Inspector.

The successful applicant will be responsible for the inspection of residential, industrial and commercial projects during construction, alteration and repair to determine conformity with established bylaws, acts, codes, standards and regulations. You will also process building permit issuances and rejections; discuss construction, alteration and repair matters with contractors, engineers, architects, homeowners and the public; interpret requirements; advise on required changes and/or corrections and carry out other relevant duties as assigned by the Island Community Planner.

Applicants must be able to demonstrate good reporting skills, both verbally and in writing, and must have good communication skills with the ability to deal effectively with the public. The successful applicant must have a minimum BOABC Level One certification and a valid driver’s license. Experience as a Journeyman Carpenter or Journeyman Plumber, or related contracting experience, would also be an asset.

Bowen Island Municipality offer competitive rates, dependent on experience. This position is based on a flexible schedule of 14 hours per week. Hours of work will normally be between 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
