Director of Permits, Licences & Bylaws

This key position has responsibility for the overall management and operation of a Department that includes building inspections, business licences, bylaw enforcement and animal control. The work involves planning and co-coordinating the Department’s annual work program and budget, assisting in the development of long-term corporate plans, and ensuring the maintenance of sound construction practices and equitable bylaw enforcement throughout the community.  The role is suited to a proven leader with a thorough knowledge of building codes, applicable bylaws and regulations, as well as the Local Government Act and Community Charter.  The incumbent will also be called upon to provide policy advice to the corporate management team and council on building safety and bylaws issues.

Your credentials include 15+ years of relevant diversified, progressive experience in a managerial capacity, including at least 5 years in a senior management or department head role, including excellent supervisory, relationship management and computer skills.  Your work experience is supplemented by a degree in Public Administration or a related discipline, as well as completion of the Level 2 Bylaw Enforcement Program at the Justice Institute of British Columbia and/or possession of Level III certification from the Building Officials’ Association of B.C.
