Director of Development Services – City of Williams Lake – Williams Lake, BC

Williams Lake, located six hours from Vancouver, is the major service centre to the vast Cariboo Chilcotin region. Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer, this position is responsible for all activities of the Development Services Department. This position is accountable for the overall direction of the following functions: Development and Community Planning (OCP and Zoning Bylaws); Building Inspections; Land Administration; Business Licensing; GIS; Civil Engineering and environmental reviews of all development related civil works.

To be successful in this role, you will require:

Excellent knowledge of applicable federal, provincial and municipal codes and regulations
Excellent knowledge of building and construction techniques and codes
Thorough knowledge of the principles, methods, and procedures involved in community planning.
A thorough knowledge of development theory and practices in relation to urban design, civil works, building construction and real estate practices, and the general economy of land development
A thorough knowledge of the Local Government Act, related statues, laws, regulations and precedents respecting civic government with emphasis on planning and  development applications
Extensive knowledge of the principles and methods of engineering administration, community planning and land use planning principles as they relate to the elements in the development field. A thorough understanding of the Planning Act processes gained through practical experience, as well as a general knowledge and understanding of other statutes, regulations and by-laws affecting the department/section.
A degree or masters in community and regional planning or relevant related degree.
Civil Engineering or a closely related discipline, preferably at the graduate level from an accredited Canadian University, or recognized equivalent Institution.
Membership or eligibility for membership with relevant professional association, e.g., the Planning Institute of British Columbia, or APEGBC.
Established progressive career with a minimum five (5) years as a Senior Manager in the Planning/Development Services field including three (3) years in an administrative or supervisory capacity within the municipal government environment.
Shall possess a valid B.C. Driver’s Licence.
