Health / Safety Coordinator – City of Camrose – Camrose, AB

The City of Camrose is seeking an experienced and energized individual for the position of Health &Safety Coordinator who will be responsible for conducting regular evaluation and revisions as required of the City’s Safety Management Plan, Standard Operational Procedures and policies.

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:

Facilitate the implementation and administration of Health and Safety policies, procedures and systems and monitor compliance with all relevant legislation, rules and regulations.
Provide support to those conducting on going safety inspections; accident/incident/near miss investigations focusing on “root cause” analysis and reporting, formal risk/hazard assessments and Partners in Injury Reduction (PIR) program and Certificate of Recognition (COR) program safety audits.
Understand and anticipate project/department specific business drivers and participate in the development and implementation of project department plans, goals and objectives from and H&S perspective.
Participate in the development of Health and Safety performance measures, interpret results and coach/influence staff on how to improve health and safety performance.  Record and analyze safety statistics including near misses and all lost time incidents.
Ensure proper documentation processes are set up where necessary such as training, testing and competency of all staff.
Manage a retraining / recertification requirements system to ensure that staff has current and up to date qualifications.
Manage the new employee orientation process to ensure Health and Safety is appropriately captured and documented.
Ensure Contractor compliance with Occupational Health and Safety Act, (OHSA) Regulation and Code and Alberta Environment standards and guidelines, including hazardous material abatement services for the City.
Attend section safety meetings throughout the City when invited.
In conjunction with Corporate and Protective Services coordinate site emergency preparedness program and participate as an active member of the City’s Emergency management Team.
Report to Management Team with regards to Health, Safety and wellness activities/updates and progression.
Conduct safety audits, coordinate audit recommendations and assist in the development of corrective action plans in consultation with project/department management.
Manage the Incident Report Tracking System.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Completion of Certificate/Diploma/Degree in Occupational Health and Safety
Alberta Class 5 driver’s license
Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) certification. (working towards)
Valid First Aid/CPR certificate:
Microsoft Project, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Email and Internet are essential.
Minimum 3 years of health and safety experience, Municipal experience an asset.

HOURS OF WORK:  Basic hours of work are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday to Friday. Additional hours will be required depending on events, projects and timelines.
 
HOURLY WAGE:  The City of Camrose offers competitive salaries and an attractive benefit package. The salary for this position will be based on qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.
