Residential Waste Reduction & Diversion Coordinator                
Temporary Full-time up to one year

This is specialized public relations and program administration work performed in coordinating, developing improvements and implementing the City’s residential waste reduction and diversion program.  The incumbent oversees residential collection contracts; supervises the work of a small group of subordinates engaged in a variety of technical program work; develops, coordinates and directs the delivery of educational and promotional programs, initiatives and campaigns; in conjunction with a superior, defines contract specifications, drafts requests for proposal (RFP) and participates in tendering processes; researches best practices, identifies innovative technologies and develops and recommends proposals for new programs and activities; establishes and maintains liaison with a variety of internal and external contacts. An incumbent exercises considerable independence of judgment and action within established guidelines and policies.  Matters of a difficult or policy nature are discussed with a superior, who reviews work performance in terms of effective services rendered and achievement of desired results.

REQUIREMENTS:

Considerable knowledge of residential waste reduction and diversion programs, contract administration, budgeting, related regulations and bylaws.
Considerable knowledge of the principles and techniques related to the development and implementation of promotional and educational programs.
Sound knowledge of the methods, practices and procedures used in operating computer equipment and software as applied to the work performed.
Sound knowledge of the techniques, materials, and methods used in developing promotional and informational materials.
Ability to coordinate, develop improvements, implement and monitor residential waste reduction and diversion programs, events and services and to evaluate and recommend changes to same.
Ability to coordinate, oversee and monitor the City’s various collection contracts, to define contract specifications and to participate in the review and evaluation of quotes or proposals for waste management services.
Ability to research best practices, identify innovative technologies and develop and recommend proposals for new programs and activities.
Ability to prepare a variety of promotional and informational materials.
Ability to prepare budget estimates, and monitor, analyse and approve expenditures.
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts and to represent the City.
Ability to supervise a small group of subordinates.
Ability to prepare and maintain reports and records related to the work.
Completion of a diploma in environmental studies, resource management or related discipline plus sound related experience OR an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia.

This position works Monday to Friday and is a 35 hour work week. Position may be required to work evenings and weekends. A CUPE hourly rate of $32.63 – $38.52 is offered, plus a competitive benefits package and compressed work week.
