Commodity Manager – TRS Staffing Solutions – Calgary, AB

We are currently seeking Commodity Managers, to work for our client in Calgary, AB

Reporting to the Manager, Product Cost Management, you will lead global strategic sourcing initiatives and be responsible for defining and implementing strategies worldwide to ensure security and flexibility of supply for specific critical commodities to our client’s integrated flat panel product portfolio for competitive advantage.

Duties and Responsibilities

An expert knowledge of the commodity category market with respect to float glass, sheet steel and/or optical cameras including associated surface preparation manufacturing processes such as galvanizing, painting, hardness coating, printing, films, etc.
Clearly defining, quantifying and specifying the technical and sourcing requirements of the specified commodities for the product application
A thorough knowledge of the supplier’s processes and capabilities (specification tolerances, manufacturing capacities, etc.) in terms of statistical process control metrics
Instituting supplier quality management practices ensuring optimal on-time delivery, cost and quality while meeting specification requirements (for both current products and new products)
Monitoring real time supplier production process metric data to ensure in control processes (consistency & reduced variation)
Investigate non-conforming defects including containment, root cause analysis and corrective action implementation for future prevention
Ensuring suppliers are aligned with our business objectives by managing supplier relationships as strategic partnerships through effective supplier data driven metrics and quarterly business review meetings
Driving continuous improvement and supplier development in respect to commodity differentiation, quality, service and cost
Qualification of suppliers through competitive benchmarking and analysis, performance evaluation, risk assessment, contract development and international negotiations
Working with Product Management and Engineering within the New Product Introduction process when selected commodities are a product differentiator or risk item
Analyzing and interpreting commodity spend data within the client’s supply chain
Researching the commodity market to understand business drivers, relevant technology trends and innovations (process and product)
Develop Commodity Strategy Roadmaps: development and execution of long-term supply strategy, landed cost modeling, supplier opportunity assessments, supplier financial analysis, negotiations and long-term contract establishment
Performing other duties as required

Education and work experience

Engineering or technical degree in mechanical engineering
Certification or diploma in supply chain management or a closely related field
10 years of solid experience in technical component or commodity engineering, or an equivalent combination of training, education, and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position
Extensive knowledge of current and advanced manufacturing processes for selected commodities
Excellent negotiation skills and past experience in dealing with OEM/ODM supplier agreements
Competent in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and component database tools
Excellent English communication skills (oral and written)
You must have a flexible schedule and be able to travel world wide
