Conservation Outreach Assistant – CPAWS Northern Alberta – Alberta

Job Description:
CPAWS Northern Alberta is seeking an enthusiastic, environmentally focused person to act as the Chapter’s Conservation Outreach Assistant to assist in the coordination of the chapter’s summer public engagement. Duties include: (1) scheduling and leading outreach and education activities related to parks and wilderness in northern Alberta; (2) managing volunteers and developing materials for outreach activities; (3) developing online engagement events and social media posts; and (4) assisting the Outreach Coordinator and Program Director with chapter duties, as required. The Conservation Outreach Assistant will work on-site at the CPAWS Northern Alberta office in downtown Edmonton, when possible, or from home while restrictions surrounding COVID-19 remain in place.

Responsibilities include:
Work with staff to develop an outreach and education plan that highlights the Chapter’s programs and activities.
Liaise, virtually when necessary, with local community organizations to develop and schedule outreach opportunities
Lead/Attend outreach events and activities, online or in small gatherings when safe (evenings and weekends)
Organize and manage volunteers for outreach events and activities
Create and manage materials for outreach events and activities
Generate, edit, publish and share daily content on social media (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter) that builds community and encourages participation from members and the public
Document the 50-year history of the chapter

Qualifications:
The ideal candidate possesses some post-secondary education in the fields of environmental sciences, environmental sociology, non-profit or business development/management, communications, or education, and has effective communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

This includes:
Enthusiasm for wilderness and conservation
The ability to communicate science to the general public
Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
Ability to work evenings and weekends throughout the summer is mandatory
Previous experience with management of social media accounts, volunteer management and volunteer management programs considered an asset
Knowledge of parks and protected areas policy and management is considered an asset.
This Job depending upon funding via a Canada Summer Jobs Grant. To apply, you must be:

Work Dates:
June 1, 2020 to September 7 or September 30 (negotiable), 2020, 35 hours per week
