Director of Public Works – Town of Middleton

The Town of Middleton is a regional service center, with a population of 1,800 and a surrounding population of 4,300, located in the Annapolis Valley of Nova Scotia. The Town is rich in history and prides itself in being “the Heart of the Valley”, with friendly people and a significant volunteer base. With over 800 assessed properties and approximately 16 permanent employees it operates its own sewage treatment plant and water utility, and is responsible for the maintenance of streets, sidewalks and several Town-owned facilities and green spaces.

The Town of Middleton is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Director of Public Works. This is a full-time position that reports directly to the Chief Administrative Officer on all services, personnel, administrative and policy issues relating to the responsibilities of the position. The position is responsible for managing the human and financial resources for the Public Works Department, ensuring the most efficient and effective use of resources to provide and maintain Town-owned facilities and services.

Preferred candidates will have completed post-secondary education in public administration/ engineering or services related programs, as well as demonstrated experience in the delivery of municipal services (water and wastewater), budget preparation and management, and project management. In addition, excellent communication, time management, and organizational skills are critical.
