EcoRanger & Creatures of the Night Program Coordinator – Stanley Park Ecology Society – Vancouver

tanley Park Ecology Society (SPES) promotes awareness of and respect for the natural world and plays a leadership role in the stewardship of Stanley Park through collaborative initiatives in education, research and conservation. We are seeking an energetic, creative and passionate program coordinator to recruit, train and supervise a team of up to 50 volunteers for two consecutive programs:

EcoRangers: (April – August) Roving volunteer eco-ambassadors interact with the public to interpret Stanley Park’s wildlife and habitats. They also promote upcoming events and activities run by the Stanley Park Ecology Society, and they provide directions and information throughout the park.

Creatures of the Night: (September – October) Overlapping the Stanley Park Ghost Train festivities is a SPES -designed wildlife program that encourages families and the general public to connect with nature through a theatrical evening walk in the park. Volunteers play key roles in delivery of this program as animal actors, interpreters, trail assistants, and information and registration assistants.

You will be working out of the historic Dining Pavilion as well as the Stanley Park Nature House on Lost Lagoon while reporting to the Public Education and Outreach Manager. This is a fantastic opportunity to share your ecological experience and people skills with dedicated volunteers to connect people with nature.

Duties

Recruit, train, schedule, supervise and evaluate the EcoRanger and Creature of the Night volunteers.
Act as an interpretive host while working out of the Stanley Park Nature House.
Update, maintain and design program materials and equipment.
Maintain good working relationships with other stakeholders working in Stanley Park.
Keep and create meticulous documentation and records for departmental reports.
Other duties as needed, including office administrative tasks or program delivery.

Qualifications

Enjoy working with people; friendly, energetic and creative.
Excellent leadership, organization, teamwork and communication skills.
Experience in volunteer supervision, training, outdoor education or nature interpretation.
Knowledge of BC ecology; a degree or diploma in an environmental field is an asset.
Willingness to work outdoors, rain or shine as well as weekends, evenings and, on rare occasion, holidays.
BC driver’s license, first aid certification, and criminal record check are required.

Pay: $16.03 per hour

Hours: 37.5 hrs/week, flexible over 5, 8-hour days, evenings or weekends
