The City of Cold Lake is seeking an enthusiastic individual to assume the responsibilities of Strategic Initiatives Manager. This is a permanent, full-time position.

Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer, the Strategic Initiatives Manager is accountable for the development, facilitation and management of the City of Cold Lake’s various strategic initiatives, corporate priorities, intergovernmental affairs, communications, policy analysis and other complex priorities. This position often leads project teams with representatives from across the organization and liaises with public and private sector stakeholders. Work may include project identification and planning, human and financial resource management, and soliciting external support.

The Strategic Initiatives Manager will assist in intergovernmental issues, often involving high-profile, complex, and strategic objectives, as well as manage regional, provincial and federal government initiatives within the organization. The position will also perform in-depth, high-quality strategic analyses and recommend alternative strategies to enhance policy effectiveness across the organization, future priorities and direction in support of the City’s strategic direction.

The City of Cold Lake is looking for a candidate who possesses exceptional multitasking skills and has the ability to successfully manage multiple projects. The incumbent must be able to remain open-minded and positive. The successful candidate must be trustworthy and able to deal with confidential and/or sensitive information.

The successful candidate will have a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Administration, Business, Political Science, or a related field from an accredited institution; post-secondary education in disciplines such as Municipal Management and Leadership, Local Government Certification Program, National Advanced Certificate in Local Authority Administration, or a related field is desirable. 7 years’ experience in a related field is required, including 5 years’ experience in a management role, preferably within a municipal government setting.

The successful candidate will have an exceptional ability to manage complex and sensitive projects, well developed communication and presentation skills (oral and written), exceptional leadership and interpersonal/rapport building skills with broad community and organizational knowledge, firm understanding of provincial and federal government systems, outstanding political acumen, and thorough knowledge and understanding of the Municipal Government Act (MGA).
