Joining Vecova as a Community Resource Practitioner (CRP) means becoming an important part of our dedicated team. CRP’s at Vecova provide excellent services and supports to adults with disabilities in a variety of settings; they require strong organizational skills and the ability to establish collaborative and effective relationships with others.

In our complex medical needs group home, clients may have a developmental disability, a mental health diagnoses, or a physical disability, that results in a primary focus of personal care support. This involves a 24-hour staffing model to help provide these additional supports to our clients, creating positions for our team members to work during the day, evening, night (awake), weekdays and weekends.

Examples of daily tasks are as follows but are not limited to:

Assisting or providing full support in personal care routines such as bathing, dressing, and grooming
Providing physical supports to individuals such as lifts and transfers involving equipment such as ceiling tracks with slings, portable Hoyer lifts, therapeutic tub with stretcher lift, 2-person lifts with transfer belt, support with walkers and wheelchairs
Identifying behaviours of concern, developing, reviewing, and monitoring of plans that assist individuals in managing behaviours
Assisting or providing full support to clients to maintain health, i.e. attending medical appointments, extensive and comprehensive medication administration, liaising with pharmacy, supporting individuals to manage health concerns such as diabetes by completing daily blood testing and maintaining appropriate diet, education around healthy eating, support with established and developed physiotherapy routines, support with established touch therapy routines, and emotional support
Providing some aspects of home maintenance and supporting individuals in their daily routines such as, meal preparation which may involve a minced or pureed diet, supporting individuals with eating, shopping, cleaning and laundry
Assisting individuals in the development of social skills and meaningful relationships
Providing assistance to individuals in managing their personal affairs, such as banking and budgeting, paying bills, etc.
Supporting individuals to know their rights, voice their thoughts and needs, and advocate for the services they require

Qualifications:

Diploma and/or Degree in a Health Care related field, Community Rehabilitation, or Disability Studies
Minimum of two years of experience working with individuals with complex medical needs or an equivalent combination of education and directly related experience
Nursing home experience considered an asset
Well developed and effective communication skills (written and oral)
Demonstrated skills in critical thinking
Driver and access to a vehicle considered an asset
