Controller, Community Development – Armco Capital Inc – Halifax City, Nova Scotia

Armco Capital Inc. is a privately owned group of companies, and one of Atlantic Canada’s largest real estate development and property management companies.  We are currently seeking a Controller, Community Development to join our Finance Group.

Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Controller of Community Development will be a key member of the senior finance team.  The Controller will be responsible for managing the accounting function of the community development team. The Controller will be accountable for the preparation of financial statements (with notes), budgeting and reporting, controls and analysis for the land development business.  They will work closely with both finance and operations to: report on results for the business, and against budget, monitor spending, provide analysis, and champion internal control.  The Controller will be mandated to support the business to reach an overall higher level of performance through providing strong support and business advice to all functions.

More specifically, the Controller will:

Directly supervise three staff members (two Senior  Accountants, and Accountant);
Oversee monthly/yearly financial closing/reporting, and  forecasting requirements of Armco (specifically Div00 – Land Development), Twin Brooks Developments, Armco Immobilier, Aspotogan Spa, and Texas;
Prepare and develop reports that give insight to the business (i.e.– business modeling and analysis);
Understand and challenge business performance as a whole and drive improvement where necessary;
Be a key contributor and leader in the annual budget process for the companies noted above;
Assist with special projects.

The ideal candidate will possess:

Undergraduate degree in business or commerce; with an accounting designation; at least 10 years of experience in public practice or industry;
Conversant with ASPE and Realpac;
Intelligent and analytical; possesses outstanding financial acumen and commercial skills.  Possesses a demonstrated ability to apply financial theory to real business situations;
Possesses well-developed consensus-building and communications skills and is able to interface with all levels and functions within an organization;
Process and detail-oriented and able to deliver flawless execution efficiently;
Skilled at mentoring and coaching a cross-functional team and assisting people to learn and develop;
Integrity and professionalism.
