Active Pictou County Coordinator – Town of Pictou

Introduction:
Active Pictou County is a cooperative partnership led by the six municipalities in Pictou County with the purpose to educate and motivate all citizens to increase their daily physical activity in an effort to create a happier, healthier and active community.

The Coordinator is responsible to act on the municipalities’ behalf to implement the Active Pictou County Strategy as laid out in annual work plans.

Main Responsibilities:

Positively impact people’s behaviour related to inactivity and obesity
Financial Management of the Active Pictou County program and other initiatives
Serve as an ongoing liaison with the Nova Scotia Health and Wellness Regional Office on physical activity initiatives in Pictou County
Project Management of various initiatives​

Specifically:

Assist organizations with improving policy and programs that support positive and healthy environments through recreation and physical activity opportunities that are sustainable
Provide assistance and project management to organizations in the development of Active Transportation initiatives and the completion of the Trans Canada Trail in Pictou County
Implement a social marketing plan that is part of a larger public awareness campaign
Responsible for the oversight of a number of employees related to specific initiatives

Education/Experience/Skills:

Degree or diploma in Recreation, Community Development, Adult Education, Health Education or a related field and three years experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Experience in community and leadership development
Ability to work independently and as a self-starter
Excellent communication, organizational and presentation skills
Computer and social media skills essential
Financial Management considered an asset

Terms and Conditions:

This is a Contract for Services that runs until March 31, 2016, with the possibility of extension. It is based on 35 hours per week.
Applicants must have a valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle. Frequent travel will be expected throughout Pictou County. Travel to other parts of Nova Scotia may occur periodically.
Travel expenses will be reimbursed.
