The Oak Street Farmers Market: 2015 Market Manager

The Oak Street Farmers Market is the first farm-direct market in South Vancouver and the only farmers’ market in Metro Vancouver with all Certified Organic fresh produce, meat & eggs. We also have a variety of delicious prepared foods, unique services like knife-sharpening, chair-massage and sewing services as well as hand-made crafts. The OSFM is a project of the Unitarian Church of Vancouver and its partners in the local farming and micro-processing industries. This year will be the 5th season for the Oak Street Farmers’ Market.

The market runs every Wednesday from June 3rd to October 14th, 2015 from 3pm to 7pm.
The Market Manager will be onsite 12:30pm to 7:30pm.

The Market Manager position responsibilities include:

Organizing weekly Farmers’ Market logistics:

Schedule vendors & market layout
Recruiting & coordinating volunteers
Working with key stakeholders to help the market run smoothly
Coordinate community partner booths
Market set up & strike
Recruit new vendors
Ensure the market adheres to City & Coastal Health Safety Guidelines
Keep detailed records
Manage vendor fees, invoices & reconciliations.

Communications:

Send out weekly newsletter
Create blog content
Update OSFM Facebook, Twitter & Instagram accounts frequently.
Weekly vendor listing on website.
Write & distribute press releases, as needed.
Design & distribute print materials

Event Planning:

Recruit & schedule Market Musicians
Create engaging community-focused events
Work with vendors & local businesses for raffle prizes.
Design & run children activities

Our Ideal Candidate has:

Passion for sustainable food security & community building
Experience managing staff and/ or teams of volunteers
A working understanding of physical & social media marketing
Background in retail or food sales
Exceptional organizational skills
Basic knowledge of bookkeeping
Self-motivation and enthusiasm for promoting local organic food

Contract Details:

As this is a contract position, there will be no deductions at source and individual will be responsible for the payment of their own EI, CPP & taxes. It is expected that the contractor will provide their own computer and cell phone. This contract position will start in early April to October 21, 2015 with a three-month probation period. The Manager reports directly to the OSFM steering committee board president and provides monthly reports at commitee meetings.
