Water and Wastewater Operator Level II – Westbank First Nation

The Water and Wastewater Operator Level II is responsible for performing tasks related to the installation and control of the operation of the water distribution, water treatment, and wastewater collection systems. The Water and Wastewater Operator Level II is also responsible for assisting with maintenance, inspections, repairs, and servicing of utilities.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Tracks, supervises, and ensures scheduled maintenance of all waterworks, storm drainage, and sewage collection system components
Interprets results of the water-quality monitoring program and ensures it is acceptable to the standards for the WFN Utilities
Supervises Level I staff to ensure work is performed safely and in adherence to established work standards
Complies with all applicable safety regulations and procedures under CCOHS
Oversees gauges, meters, and control panels and makes adjustments to any variations within the operating conditions of the system, if necessary
Maintains records and prepares reports for water and wastewater systems
Assists with water, sewer, and storm service installations
Builds strong working relationships with the Development Services department and other water and sewer utilities within the area
Responds and addresses public complaints or concerns in a courteous and tactful manner and in all aspects of the water and wastewater systems
Operates valves and gates either manually or by remote control
Maintains shift logs and records meter and gauge readings
Performs routine maintenance functions and custodial duties
Monitors construction sites/projects as it relates to water and wastewater facilities according to maintenance and repair activities
Performs duties of shift supervisor in his/her absence and other related tasks as required
Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Westbank First Nation policies, standards, and procedures
Maintains confidentiality on all matters relating to the affairs of Westbank First Nation

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
Required:
EOCP Water Distribution Operator’s Certificate (Level 2)
Waste Water Collection Operator’s Certificate (Level 1)
Minimum First-aid training (Level 1) St. John Ambulance or alternate
Chlorine Handling Certificate
Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License and an annual driver’s abstract in excellent standing which is to be submitted annually
Experience and training working with Word, Excel and Data Base Management
Knowledge of SCADA systems
Recommended:
Transportation of Dangerous Goods Certificate
Hydrant Maintenance
Excavation Safety
Confined Space Entry and Certification Awareness
WHIMIS Certificate

Other Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience:
Knowledge of plan reading, pipe locating, and map reading is considered an asset
GIS Training is considered an asset
One year experience at a Class 2 or higher system/facility
Minimum two (2) years of directly related experience with a water or wastewater utility is preferred
Mechanical aptitude and ability to work well with tools
Ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues
Dependable, reliable, and available to work overtime and to be on standby as required
Ability to work independently or within a team structure and to work cooperatively with other WFN departments
Comfortable dealing with the Membership and public
Strong interpersonal and communication skills (both oral and written)
Ability to work in inclement weather conditions and physically able to lift up to 50 lbs
Ability to be self-motivated with personal initiative to start and complete projects with pre-approval when required
