Green Schools Engagement Officer – Thinkwell Shift – Halifax, Nova Scotia

We create strategies that encourage people to make lasting changes in their daily lives to conserve resources such as water, energy, and waste. In order to facilitate behaviour change, we connect with customers using various tactics to guide their path. Shift is looking for customer service orientated individuals who are looking for a challenge.

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES

Participate in the development and deployment of recruitment strategies for the 2015-2016 program.
Work to actively recruit new schools, and re-register schools that participated in the program in the previous school year.
Introduce program goals, logistics, and resources to new and returning schools.
Provide on-the-ground advice, support, and mentorship to participating schools throughout the school year.
Forge, maintain, and strengthen relationships with the school community (students, teachers, administrators, parents), partners, and other stakeholders.
Help implement baseline and end-of-year surveys and other evaluation methods.
Participate in meetings with the program team as required.
Participate in the identification and dissemination of program success stories.
Contribute to the development of web, social media, and printed content for the program.
Seize all relevant opportunities to build support and excitement for the program.

School Engagement Officers will be assigned and responsible for a specific region in the province, ideally corresponding to the region in which they live. Please indicate in your cover letter which region you would be most interested in working: HRM/Eastern Shore; Cape Breton; Northern Nova Scotia; Annapolis Valley/South Shore; Conseil scolaire acadien provincial (CSAP), which is province-wide. We will do our utmost to accommodate these preferences if possible; however, successful candidates must demonstrate a willingness to travel throughout the province as required.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

Degree in Education, Environmental Management/Studies, or related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
Experience working with children and youth (elementary, junior, and/or senior high school students) in a school setting and/or programming capacity.
Strong time management, planning, and interpersonal skills.
Personal commitment to leading a sustainable lifestyle desired; expertise in environmental studies would be an asset.
Valid Nova Scotia Driver’s License, access to a safe and reliable vehicle, and ability to travel throughout the province as required.
Experience delivering youth programs with an environmental focus would be considered an asset.
Knowledge of the Nova Scotia school system and/or curriculum outcomes and lesson plan development would be considered an asset.
Bilingualism (English/French) is mandatory for applicants interested in the CSAP position; it is considered an asset for the other four Engagement Officer positions.

A criminal record check, including a vulnerable sector check, will be required before beginning work in schools.
