Librarian III – InfoAction – City of Vancouver – Vancouver, BC

Vancouver Public Library is seeking an entrepreneurial minded individual to manage, plan and promote a for-profit, fee-based research service. Reporting to the Director, Library Experience, you will provide research services, and oversee staff that provide research services to a broad client base including: estimating, researching and delivering projects; ensuring quality control and client satisfaction; overseeing InfoAction’s operating budget; monitoring revenues and expenditures to ensure profitability; developing revenue and expenditures projections; promoting the service to business and other agencies; and, administering VPL’s Citizenship and Immigration Canada contribution agreement. Working with the Director, Library Experience the incumbent recommends short and long-term priorities; implements and evaluates services and procedures of InfoAction; and supervises, trains, coaches, mentors, and evaluates staff. Responsible for leading and implementing the Library’s strategic goals and priorities as they pertain to InfoAction and for providing leadership to staff in contributing to the success of InfoAction and the Library as a whole. Demonstrates and sets expectations for the conduct of staff that adhere to the Library’s policies and procedures in accordance with the Library’s vision, mission and values.

Qualifications: Masters Degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA accredited library school. Completion of supervisory, project management, business, market or legal research courses. Three to five years of supervisory experience with demonstrated leadership experience as an Assistant Manager and/or Branch Head. Considerable experience in the provision of information services, project management, and working with the business community. Ability to lead, coach and develop a staff team; excellent team-building and leadership skills. Thorough knowledge of current business trends and industry best practices in areas of responsibility with a strong commitment to serving clients. Ability to actively promote InfoAction’s services to the business community and others; and work with clients to identify and meet needs and expectations. Innovative and flexible in a rapidly changing library environment with the ability to assist staff to participate in and be open to change. Excellent oral and written communication skills as well as statistical, analytical and problem solving skills.
