The City of Dawson Creek requires an experienced Level 2 Building Official to perform a variety of duties related to the enforcement of the BC Building Code and City of Dawson Creek Building Regulation Bylaw under the supervision of the Director of Development Services, Senior City Planner, or designate. The job involves skilled work including plan reviews, permit issuance, and site inspections primarily for standard buildings and structures, and may include occasional bylaw enforcement duties. Interpretation of the building and plumbing code, and local regulations and bylaws regarding construction and development including zoning and subdivision regulations, are routine functions of the position. The successful applicant must have the ability to use tact and discretion when settling requests, complaints, or clarifying information and be able to prepare concise reports and correspondence.
 
The ideal candidate will have the following:

Grade 12 diploma
BC Institute of Technology Building Inspection Course
Building Officials Association of BC Level 2 Certification
Plumbing Official Level 1 or higher certification
Valid driver’s license
Minimum one year experience in a trade such as carpentry or plumbing, and/or other relevant work experience, ideally as a building inspector in a local government setting.

Consideration may be given to candidates with Level 1 certification and who demonstrate commitment to attaining Level 2 certification. The successful applicant will have the ability to perform all duties in a safe manner and the required physical agility and ability to complete duties requiring physical effort. A proven ability to provide excellent service to the public are also required.
