Project Engineer – City of Richmond

POSITION OVERVIEW
The Project Engineer position provides municipal engineering work at the professional level and is responsible for the management and planning of the City’s Water and Sanitary Sewer or Roads and Drainage networks. Key examples of work include:

Modelling and Planning of the City’s Water and Sanitary Sewer or Roads and Drainage networks including support for the sanitary pump or drainage pump stations and development related services.
Leading and providing direction to staff responsible for asset management and master infrastructure planning.
Supervision of technical and professional staff as well as assigning project work to all divisional staff when required.
Reviewing engineering design drawings for municipal infrastructure as well as private utilities.
Developing capital works projects as well as the negotiation, development and administration of agreements, contracts policies and bylaws.
Preparing technical reports to committees and council.
Developing policies and staff procedures.
Representing the City on various committees with internal and external agencies as well as at public open houses.
Providing engineering support and expertise to City Staff and customers.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Grade 12 with a University Degree in Civil Engineering, and a preference for those with a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation. Ideal candidates should have five (5) years related experience in municipal or consulting civil engineering with hydraulic modelling experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of municipal bylaws and processes.
Skilled in computer assisted analysis for master infrastructure planning.
Proven skills in customer service initiatives, innovation, and team building.
Demonstrated ability in design, construction and project management.
Ability to effectively communicate orally and in written form with City Council, the public and staff.
LICENCES, CERTIFICATES AND REGISTRATIONS
Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence for the Province of British Columbia.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND EFFORT
Duties are performed in an office environment with some site visits required.
