Power Electronics Engineer

Duties and Responsibilities:

Responsible for the design, development and testing of switch-mode power conversion equipment in the 100W to 100kW power range.
Provide technical assistance to customers in support of new product development and legacy product support.
Review customer specifications and requirements and assist in the generation of bids and proposals
Provide budget, cost and schedule inputs for engineering projects and job assignments
Specify and evaluate supplier components, subsystems and services
Support the program design to cost and design for manufacture requirements
Develop prototypes to resolve key development risks
Generate engineering documentation in support of design activities and customer requirements, including specifications, test procedures and reports, failure reports, design analysis, and program progress reports
Work collaboratively with Manufacturing, Supply Chain and Program Management to achieve material and labour design-to-cost targets
Participate in product quality improvement teams, Material Review Boards and Failure Review Boards
Adopt and support the company’s values and code of ethics

Qualifications:

Post secondary degree in electrical engineering
Minimum of 8 years’ experience in the design, development and application of switch-mode power supplies
Expertise in power electronic circuit topologies and control techniques
Strong analytical capabilities
Thorough understanding of thermal, physical, and EMI requirements of power electronic system designs.
A record of delivering cost effective and reliable designs within schedule and budget.
Excellent interpersonal, communication and writing skills
Strong problem solving and decision-making ability
Ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple tasks
Ability to travel within Canada and the United States
Ability to obtain a Government of Canada security clearance
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel and PowerPoint

Additional Desirable Qualifications Skills and Knowledge:

Past experience developing embedded processor solutions using Digital Signal Processors (DSPs).
Experience with modern DSP firmware development tools, and comfortable using both “C” and “Assembly” programming languages.
Capable of developing schematics using tools such as Cadence OrCAD or CadSoft Eagle.
Past experience in the defence industry would be an asset
Familiarity with both commercial and Military Standards as they apply to power conversion equipment
